Sustainability

Ironbark Demolition Pty Ltd (IBD) policy is to de-construct rather than to demolish. The careful dismantling of structures is more time-consuming, but it maximizes the amount of material that can be reused, re-purposed or recycled. Construction & Demolition Waste (C&D Waste) is still rising despite an overall reduction of waste in the sector. Concrete, asphalt and brick continues to end up in landfill which impacts on the environment, and on the demolition budget.
IBD standard operating procedure is to separate materials for re-use or recycling in preference to sending those materials to land fill as waste. The resultant savings on transport costs and landfill fees combined with sales of recovered materials are beneficial for both the business and the environment.

SUSTAINABILITY

C&D Waste Minimisation

The construction and demolition (C&D) waste stream has an environmental impact at every step of the construction process from the extraction of raw materials, the processing, manufacturing, transportation, construction and eventual demolition and disposal of the materials at the end of the structure’s useful life.
IBD seeks to maximise opportunities for innovation and improve environmental outcomes by extracting valuable resources from the C&D waste stream. Responding to the needs of environmental sustainability, the challenges of low-carbon economies and reality of resource depletion is a core tenet of our business. In so doing, we aim to contribute to a more ecologically sustainable built environment.

SUSTAINABILITY

Repurposing & Recycling

IBD is committed to recovering as many re-usable materials as possible and lowering the overall environmental impact of our demolition projects.
Where the opportunity exists, IBD crushes concrete on-site for re-use in the ongoing construction project. Asphalt is re-used on local landowners’ roads or recycled. All recovered hardwood timber is recycled. Materials such as steel recovered from reinforced concrete is sent to licenced premises for recycling.
Our demolition methodology reflects our commitment to the principles of resource recovery underlined by our “de-construct, don’t demolish” approach.
